Founded in 1975 by the late Hajah Zainab binti Mamat, Terengganu Songket began as a humble gallery dedicated to preserving and celebrating the beauty of handwoven Terengganu songket.

What started within her own home grew into a respected name in Malaysian textile heritage, known for its refined craftsmanship, intricate motifs, and dedication to authentic traditional weaving. Each piece of songket reflects patience, precision, and generations of knowledge passed down through skilled hands.

Hajah Zainab’s lifelong contribution to the craft earned her national and regional recognition, including Tokoh Kraf Negara Tenunan Songket 2002, ASEAN Master Craftsmen on Textile 2005, and Anugerah Seni Terengganu 2005.

Today, her legacy lives on through the next generation, led by Luqman Al Hakim Ariffin, who continues to carry Terengganu Songket forward with the same respect for heritage, artistry, and timeless Malay elegance.

More than a textile, songket is a symbol of identity, refinement, and cultural pride. From weddings and royal ceremonies to formal occasions and heirloom collections, Terengganu Songket continues to honour the enduring beauty of one of Malaysia’s most treasured handwoven traditions.

Hajah Zainab @ Ngah binti Mamat dilahirkan pada 22 Disember 1942 di Kampung Gelung Gajah iaitu sebuah perkampungan kecil yang terletak kira-kira 7km dari Kuala Terengganu. Kemahiran menenun kain diusahakan secara serius oleh kaum wanita di kampung tersebut termasuk keluarga Hajah Zainab ketika negara bergelut dengan kepayahan hidup akibat jajahan tentera Jepun.

Setelah sekian lama berkecimpung dalam bidang tenunan songket, Allahyarhamah Hajah Zainab meninggalkan himpunan kain songket hasil ciptaannya sebagai warisan yang terus dikenang dan dihargai hingga hari ini.

Hajah Zainun Jusoh, affectionately known as Kak Nun, is the successor and director of Terengganu Songket, continuing the legacy founded by her mother, the late Hajah Zainab @ Ngah Binti Mamat. A fifth-generation songket weaver, she was introduced to the craft from a young age and has spent decades mastering the intricate art of traditional handwoven songket.

Renowned for her dedication to preserving Malaysian songket techniques and designs, Hajah Zainun’s most notable achievement is the revival of ancient motifs such as Limar Tenggarong, which had nearly been lost to time. Her work has also been recognised through prestigious commissions, including the “Queen of Songket” textile for Ithra Museum. Through her leadership, she continues to guide new generations of weavers while keeping the art of Terengganu handwoven songket alive with passion, patience, and refinement.
